Abstract

The widespread integration of information and communication technology (ICT) into every facet of human endeavour including education, has been recognized as a major global transformation that improves effectiveness. However, the influence of ICT services on teachers’ effectiveness in secondary schools is yet to be assessed. This study, therefore, examined information communication services and teachers’ effectiveness in public secondary schools in Akure South Local Government Area of Ondo State. The study adopted a descriptive survey research design. The population consisted of all SS3 students in Akure South Local Government Area of Ondo State, with a sample size of 240 students. Data was collected using a research instrument titled “Information and Communication Technology and Teachers’ Effectiveness in Public Secondary Schools in Akure South Local Government Area, Ondo State," which was validated and reliable (r=0.89). Descriptive statistics were used to answer two research questions, while inferential statistics were applied to test and analyze one hypothesis at a 0.05 level of significance. Findings from the study showed that the level of teachers’ effectiveness of ICT usage was moderate (x̄ = 2.77) and that ICT was of moderate importance for learning (x̄ = 3.07). Furthermore, a significant relationship was observed between ICT usage (services) and teachers’ effectiveness, with r(478)= 0.527, P<0.01. Based on the findings, it was revealed that ICT services have a positive influence on teachers’ effectiveness. Therefore, it is recommended that teachers at all levels, particularly those in public secondary schools, make efforts to utilize the Internet to access information that can improve their teaching methods and lesson delivery. Additionally, school principals should make concerted efforts towards providing internet access and other ICT tools to improve teachers’ effectiveness in Akure South Local Government Area of Ondo State.
